Triple 6K Challenge Day 3

Okay so day three started off early I tried to get some exercise in before I went to work.
Not as much as I would have wanted to but it helped somewhat.
  • Core workout- varied to work overall, notice that my neck was getting sore from doing workouts incorrectly.  Changed how I was going through and doing things to not damage, but still be effective.
    • Results: 250 reps(the soreness is all over now)
  • Knee Bends- This has turned into all kinds of leg exercises, sets of 25 to accomplish what I need to, my legs are so weak!!!  The feeling of almost cramping while you workout is a great motivator!
    • Results: 225 reps(soreness check! Wait.....are those muscles I feel under my jiggly thighs?)
  • Push ups-  Clearly the weakest of my areas, as I have stated before I do pushups and sissyups.
    • Results: 75 reps(same as the previous day but should be able to hit 100 for the next 2 days then bump it up from there)
This has been a great challenge because I am thinking more about okay when can I squeeze some exercise in, how many more reps can I do.  It also has let me know how you can let exercise take over to much of your time.  There needs to be a balance in things............We also have just purchased a xbox w/kinetc so my sweetie and I can try the biggest loser workout to see how things will work.
Until tomorrow we will see how we do on the challenge!

Triple 6K Challenge Day 2

Okay so day two I woke up and I was sore getting out of bed, to be expected.
I went through the day at work, sitting at a desk on the phone, find the soreness increasing throughout the day.
Arms were feeling sore, abs were tender and felt worked over for sure.  Legs were tender and going up and down stairs felt the muscles that had been worked.
Noticed the increase in energy already, I know it was only one night of working out, Feb 15th after 10pm was when I started the workout.
So I got home from work on the 16th and took care of things at home ( Mainly trying to jump start a dead car but that is for another post)
I decided that I needed to break it up as far as the workout was concerned.
  • Core workout- I focused on sets of 25 for different exercises. So that I could isolate all of the core area.  These included lower ab, side, upper workouts as well.  Felt the Burn even more then the night before.
    • Results: 200 reps of core workouts.
  • Knee bends-  I again looked at sets of 25 for different types of knee bends, squats, knee raises and other leg exercises.  Again feeling the concentrated soreness all over not just in one part of the leg.
    • Results: 200 reps of leg type workouts.
  • Push ups- I wanted to make sure I was working this as well rounded as possible.  Sets of 25 from wide stance, shoulder width, diamonds, inverted to develop the chest, back and upper body.  Soreness in the arms, shoulders, back were expected and happened!  Now this is my area that I need to improve the most.  I started with 50 on the first night and it about killed me, I did 75 the second night, I should be able to hit the 200 per day mark next week and then make up ground by hitting 225.
    • Results: 75 Push ups
  • Results:  Soreness in the body that creates a good joke for coworkers, friends and family.  Overall more energy throughout the day.  I am sitting at a desk on the phone 12-15 hours a day, desk muscle is an easy thing to build hard to break down. I am using this challenge as a Shock Treatment for my body. I know that having a rest period will benefit building more muscle, right now getting the muscles use to being used.  After the 30 days I will have breaks in between giving the muscle time to rebuild before tearing it up again.
The other reason this challenge appealed to me was the fact that I am my own workout tool.  I can do this anytime of the day no matter were I am really.  Now I am only doing this at home because of my current size and shape, which is Big and hairy!  Now some of you will be saying your missing the cardio your not helping yourself because your not doing carido!  I am at work Tue-Sat typically from 7am-9 or 10 at night.......Does not leave a lot of time for cardio.  On Mon, my sweetie and I try and get at least an hour walk in around or house.  Now this is in the foothills, so there is some serious calve-killing hills that we go through.  It is a great burn trying to get my schedule to allow me to do that Mon and Fri.

Food-  I am not restricting or trying any diet right now.  I am following the phrase "Moderation in all things..."
Those that know me are aware I love food, all kinds of food.  I crave a great salad loaded with nuts and cut up veggies and cheese as much as I crave Ding Dongs and Mtn Dew!  Right now getting exercise back into my routine is priority one, then we will begin to specialize the exercise.
Check back in tomorrow to see how I did on my third day!

Triple 6k Challenge!! Workout plan- Pushup, Knee bends and Crunches oh my!

So I decided to take a physical challenge, I know, I know for those that are familiar with me and physical physique this may come as a bit of shock.  I am not against working out or getting into shape, in fact I try to be supportive of those that are trying to take charge of that aspect of their lives.
For me, not making exercise a habit earlier in my life had a Domino effect on weight gain and other issues.  I was never one to shy away from helping other move or, lending a hand that required physical effort.  I would find myself completely dead after moving and I did not like that fact.
During the spring and through the fall of 2010 my sweetie got me out and hiking in the foothills behind our house.  We would take 2 hour hike twice a week!  It felt good to know that my lungs were doing better, so in turn I knew I was helping my heart out as well!
So here is what I am going to be doing on the Triple 6k Challenge!
in 30 calender days I will be working towards the following goals.......

6000 Push ups- This will be any variation- just get the numbers, I need to average 200 per day to hit my goal.
6000 Knee bends- This will be any variation, get the legs moving! need to average 200 per day.
6000 Crunches-  This will be multiple variations to work all areas of the "core", again average 200 per day.
So on my first night I recognized certain truths that could not be avoided.
  • I am NOT in even fair shape I would say....
  • Push ups will be a huge challenge my upper body is weak.
  • My legs are basically like drumsticks in the wrong way!
So starting out last night I cranked out the 200 crunches and proceeded to have stomach spasms afterwards.  My sweetie kindly pointed out that if your body is hurting stop doing what your doing.  Well I was done, so I stopped, then it started hurting!
After drinking some water and not being doubled over, I began on the knee bends.  I had my arms out in from of me and cranked out 50, hamstrings started to twist and curl so I took a break to work on push ups.

Push up are without and doubt my biggest weakness, I have wrists that have never provided me with the support, granted I have never given them a sustained chance to prove themselves.  I cranked out for me as many push ups as I could ............only 25!!!!!!!!  Oh this is going to be a long long challenge!!!
Okay back to more knee bends we can do this.........50 more and the hamstrings are tight and cramping.....more water.....back to push ups.......Now let me make sure you understand something.....I can do maybe 5-7 regular straight back push ups, so I add what I call "Sissy ups"  I am on my knees still keeping the straight back and good form.  I basically did up to 50 and then collapsed, that was it.  No more gas in the tank, the arms were rubber, had to roll over to my side to get up while my abs were trying to tie themselves in knots.

So variety is going to be the spice of this life while I am going through this challenge!
Ab workouts will be for the overall not just the crunches, but the reps will be averaging 200 or more per night.
Push ups I will be working from wide stance to shoulder width to diamonds and any other variation I can handle.
Knee bends can be varied to different workouts as well, targeting other areas that need addressing, which is pretty much all the areas!

I would like to do another challenge were I involve pull ups and running but we will get through the 30 days on this one and go from that point!   Check back in and see how I am punishing myself and improving as I move along!
Laugh Often, Enjoy and live life always!!

Journey from Fat to PHAT

This will be the start of my journey from Fat to PHAT (Pretty Hot and Tasty)
Now what defines being PHAT?   This is were you will be seeking the opinion of others on your body image.  With that being said you have to figure out how to get your body to change the way it looks.  Well do I have a deal for you!!!

Big Guys Getting Phat

This website has been created to help those of us out there to get started turning the Fat into Phat!
You will find program reviews, personal information and success stories, links to companies that can help us get fit and phat!

The hardest part about any change is of course getting started.  Well if you are reading this you have have done the first step without even realizing it.....You have recognized you need to change!

I guess you could say that I will be going through the levels of PHAT.
Level I

This level is attained when you can consistently go on walks up or downhill, on or off road with your sweetie and not be out of breath or slow her down.
I have reached this level but the winter time "Desk muscle" is slowing me down for sure.

Level II
This would be were you are working out and begining to lose the look of a pear and resemble closer to a attractive human male.
Long ways off on that one yet ;-)

Level III
This is were you have a toned workout hardened body, your able to compete in physical exercise and come away barely breathing hard.  You will have a "Adonis" type body that your sweetie will faun and faint over.

What is it about being occupied that creates the warmth of complacency?

"Yahtzee!!!!!!" This was a phrase that I grew up with, my mom the queen of the dice. Her biggest dilemma was were to put her next full roll of 3's or 5's because her Yahtzee was filled three turns ago. Our family would play card games, board games, invented games, religious games and thinking games. Being the youngest of the family I was typically given marbles with a Chinese checker board to play with or pick up sticks. As I got older it grew into Uno Cards, rook cards, cheese pieces and simpler board games. I begin to see strategies used in certain games, you could distract my dad by asking a homework question hoping to sneak a move by him. In turn acting as if your distracted leads others to make moves that benefit you as well. Words games became a nemesis, the speed and being able to layout the phrases quickly was a source of beyond un-enjoyment. Strategy games were fun, but tiresome and could degrade into a tyranny filled situation. One of the games that I enjoyed the most and still enjoy is Stock Market, dated as it was the ability to earn some starting money and then jump into the "market" moving into "shareholder meetings" I quickly became and sole promoter and evangelist of playing the game. To my credit I have 2-3 nephews that enjoy the game, almost as much as I do. Game night has become a way for Parker Brothers and gang to get back into the home without the use of computers. Family Game night, that has taken on a whole new meaning, electronic games, gaming consoles, compact gaming systems.
Does all this mean that the family is getting closer through technology or is technology taking over more of the family?  I know that in our household we have experienced it both ways.  Our oldest child received a cellphone we can stay in touch better now.  Online games, facebook, email browsing and killing time tend to put that wedge into the family unit.  How does this relate to the feeling of being occupied?
Family game night creates lasting memories that can be relived through online docu-blog-tation.  Storytelling, crafting of legends and lore, invoking the feeling of nostalgia and misty-eyed memories is a art that was once passed down with merriment and purpose.  I cherish the times I get to sit with the older weathered generation and listen to times gone by, hearing the laughter of their childhood, seeing the glimmer in the eye of the teller of tales.  History can guide us on vices and virtues that have scalded past people into to greatness or ground them into nothing.  What to learn from this rambling?

Twisted Good Bad indifferent?

Twistedpaperclip-
What am I about?    That would be similar to asking a hurricane to keep down your sleeping, persuading a avalanche to easy it self over just a tad.
There will be various links and squibs and scribes that will be making them present and known on this website.
Continue on the path beware the idle times, or the crocodiles of contentment...........
